Biography
Benno took his first steps in playing the piano at the age of seven. But like many other kids, it took some time before he truly got hooked and began striving to play the classical composers like Beethoven and Chopin.
His journey into electronic music began after meeting Piet Bervoets in 1997. Shortly after, they started the Rank 1 project and gained massive success in the underground dance scene. That success even reached the mainstream when they hit the charts with Airwave and their remix of Cygnus X – Superstring. They performed live at major events such as Sensation, Trance Energy, ASOT, and Tomorrowland, from the West Coast of the U.S. to Japan.
In 2007, Benno began working closely with Armin van Buuren as a co-producer, co-writer, and composer. This collaboration led to numerous successes, ranging from deep trance tracks to mainstream dance hits like This Is What It Feels Like, for which they received a Grammy nomination.
In 2024, he launched his solo project BnO, focusing on more easy-sounding dance tracks. He has been working closely with Lulleaux on these releases. The two had already collaborated years earlier, finding success with Lulleaux’s single Contact, which surpassed 100 million streams.
His latest project, Ben Norderfeld, allows him complete creative freedom, resulting in ambient, cinematic, and peaceful music.
